A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Moutet.

It is the player's first championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.

Victory also means he has won twenty-one championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He saved four initial chances in a competitive final set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
